Reviews:
INDEPENDENT WEEKLY - LEAD REVIEW - Rick Cornell
Some records feel claustrophobic, determined to pack in more instruments, more words, more stuff. By the end, there's not much air left in the room--for better or worse, I guess, depending on how you feel about light-headedness.
On the other hand, there's this second release from Chapel Hill's Yasmine White, an album with plenty of room to breathe between notes, especially on the exceptionally spacious first half. As a result, the spotlight is on White's expressive, versatile vocals as well as her songwriting, which isn't shy about exploring the deals that we make with each other and with ourselves in the name of love and need.
CHAPEL HILL NEWS - Dave Hart
“Yasmine White” ranges much further afield in style and approach than her debut CD, 2002’s “Simple Truths,” which was primarily a folk-flavored acoustic album. This one touches on everything from alt-rock to electronic to smoldering jazz, all of it tied together by her inviting melodies and pure voice.
INDIE-MUSIC.COM - Derek Blackmon
On her second full-length release, Chapel Hill’s Yasmine White continues to prove that talent only takes time to be fully recognized. Somebody’s paying attention though. With a CV that already includes second place in the Folk category of the John Lennon Song Writing Contest and an honorable mention in Billboard’s World Song Contest, it’s a wonder that no one else is lucky enough to have discovered the area’s latest wunderkind.
At first glance, Chapel Hill seems like a very unlikely place to spawn such an eclectic sound, but this town is no stranger to talent, having bred the likes of Mojo Nixon, Chris Stamey and Archers of Loaf.
MY TUNES - AN iTUNES BLOG - Hank Shiffman
I find the recommendation features of the iTMS to be a mixed bag. The Top Artist Downloads list helps me find an artist's most popular tracks, or at least the best known ones, which aren't always the same thing. Here it led me to My Secret a jazzy Latin number. And that was enough to get me to stop and sample a few others. Like the Didoesque In My Mind. Or Love, which seems to channel a latter day Patsy Cline.
I like Yasmine White; her songs all sound different, yet somehow all sound like her.

Simple Truths (2002)
Features "Lemon Trees," the 2nd place winner
in the Folk category of the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
SIMPLE TRUTHS highlights eleven of Yasmine White's original songs, sung
in her unique, emotionally charged voice.
Reviews:
RAMBLES - Jenny Ivers
"The clarity of Yasmine's voice and her lyrics demand your attention
from the outset, gently insisting on concentration on the feelings she
is expressing. She sings songs for folk to listen to, songs about life,
her hopes and fears and injustices, her love and uncertainties and
inadequacies. I hope this album reaches more appreciative ears, and we
are treated to further insights and soul-baring truths from this
silver-voiced music-maker."
THE SPECTATOR - Jennifer Layton
"Yasmine White plays with an earthy feel and angelic harmonies. These
songs aren't so much played as breathed into life, almost whispered.
These 11 tracks flow right from the heart."
GREEN MAN REVIEW - Lenora Rose
"There is no bad track, and some real standouts. I’m already eager to
see what’s to come next."
